General question about complex numbers.

In relation to complex numbers, If I am asked for an answer in x+ib form, is that the same as asking for it in a+ib form, sorry if that sounds stupid but I've not been able to find out are they just variations of the same thing online.

Yes, the form a + bi (and you may use any symbols for the real parameters a and b), is the rectangular form of a complex number.
