Total sleeping students = Total Students * % of sleeping students (converted in decimal). % Conversion in decimal is easy. 100% is 1.00 ; 90% is 0.90. 80% is 0.80. 65% is 0.65 (you get the feel)

To calculate the number of students, multiply 2900 by 0.24. That is 696 students who do not get the recommended amount. Subtract 696 from 2900. That means 2204 students do get the recommended amount. Or, 100%-24% is 76%, or 0.74 in decimal. 2900 times 0.74 is 2204.

OK. You are following the logic, which is the main point of math, but how did you go from 76% to 0.74? A lot of the rest of math is just being careful.
