Rate Of Growth Of Two Numbers
 
Now, x = 1,426 and y = 8,959. The rate of growth of y relative to x = 862/277, meaning that y grows about 3.11 times as fast as x. I found a point-slope equation solver that said the equation is y = 1,724x - 2,449,465. Obviously, since y/x = about 6.28, which is > than about 3.11, the ratio y/x will decrease as x approaches positive infinity. I want to know the values of x and y when y = 5x and when y = 6x. I tried solving 1,724x - 2,449,465 = 5x, but when I used these answers with x = 1,426 and y = 8,959, it didn't satisfy what I wanted to know (I'm not saying the online calculator is wrong). The problem should be easy for me, but I'm struggling to express the information as equations. If you give me the equations I can solve them without help.

I get the equation $y-8959=\dfrac{862}{277}(x-1426)$

Thank you. That equation worked. I did the y = 5x part so far and x = about 2,395.

When y = 6x, x = about 1,565.5 and y = about 9,393.
