Separately 1 and 2 have the same value in both bases, but 12 does not, since the 1 represents different things.

First, thank you for your posts, i have taken too much of your time, please forgive me..

Now, let me see if i finally got it..

in base 8, the fraction as a decimal in base 8.

in base 10, the fraction as a decimal in base 10.

Although 0.4 does not equal 0.5...1/2 = 1/2 in both bases.

I have enjoyed it, and if I didn't have the time, I would get to it when I did, so no worries!

Yes 0.4 in base 8 is equal to 0.5 in base 10, since both are 1/2.

And 4 in base 8 is the same as 4 in base 10:



whereas 40 in base 8 is not equal to 40 in base 10:
