Hello everybody, I have been working on this for a while, I can't seem to get the correct answers. Which of these 6 questions is true and which ones false? I really appreciate your help. I am new to this forum but I have heard many many great things about it from friends. I hope I can get help, and at the same time, possibly help you as well. (1) If x1 =/= x2 then the slope of the line through the points (x1,y1) and (x2,y2) is m=(y2-y1)/(x2-x1) (2) The slope of the line through the points (x1,y1) and (x2,y2) is m=(y2-y1)/(x2-x1) (3) Two lines are parallel if and only if they have the same slope or are vertical (4) If x1 =/= x2 then the slope of the line through the points (x1,y1) and (x2,y2) is m=(y2-y1)/(x1-x2) (5) Two lines are parallel if and only if they have the same slope (6) If x1 =/= x2 then the slope of the line through the points (x1,y1) and (x2,y2) is m=(y1-y2)/(x1-x2)

For 1, 2, 4, and 6: $m=\frac{\Delta y}{\Delta x}=\frac{y_2-y_1}{x_2-x_1}=\frac{y_1-y_2}{x_1-x_2}$ Note that m is only defined for $x_1\ne x_2$. If $x_1=x_2$ then the line is vertical. For 3 and 5: Two lines are parallel if they have the same slope OR if both are vertical (in which case the slopes are undefined). Can you see which are true and which are false now? Btw, this is a pre-calculus topic, so I have moved it accordingly.

The rest are correct.
