Re: Card Indoor Game - Reinventing - Maths Application

Thank you.

I was just wondering regarding the Design Patterns / Shapes of the Cards.

Spade -> Resembles a Leaf -> Card Color Black

Club -> Resembles a Tree -> Card Color Black

Heart -> Resembles a Human Heart Shape -> Card Color Red

Diamond -> Resembles a Diamond Shape -> Card Color Red

Now There are Similarities between Spade (Curve Shape) and Club (Curve Shape) Cards which are both Black in Color.
i.e Leaf is a Part of Tree.

But doesn't look like that there are Similarities between Heart (Curve Shape) and Diamond (Line Shape) Cards which are both Red in Color.

Spade, Club and Heart are Curve shapes while Diamond is a Line Shape.
So instead of Diamond Card Name, ideally we should have given a different name which will be a part of Heart similar to Spade (Leaf) is a Part of Club (Tree)

Isn't it ?

Can someone suggest, what could be alternate name instead of Diamond Card ? It should be a Curve Shape and part of Heart.

Should we google for "Parts of Heart" Keyword to get the alternate name for Diamond ?

Thanks & Regards,

Re: Card Indoor Game - Reinventing - Maths Application

Should we give the Card Name atrium / auricle - Curve Shape instead of Diamond ?

atrium / auricle is part of Heart, similar to Leaf (Spade) is part of Tree (Club)

That doesn't make sense to me - what makes you think atrium (or auricle) has any connection with the diamond suit?

Not sure if this is the right forum...

I was thinking, while watching football today, what if we changed everything about football?
Could we still call it football?

(Honestly, I WAS wondering what it would be like to have a slight incline in the field, or maybe a V shape as we go from endzone to endzone)

ps Murrican football

Re: Card Indoor Game - Reinventing - Maths Application

Why re-invent these games? I doubt seriously anyone's drastically changing Bridge any time soon, or any other popular game. People make house rules, and sometimes they spread and minor changes are made. (I've found sometimes the official rules of games contain "surprises", stuff I've never heard of, but the main gist and most rules of the game are the same.)

I'd also point out that I've played Spades and Hearts with 3 people quite often enough, and the 52 cards don't split evenly. Though I do agree many games are played with 4, and commonly with partners.

I personally find it cumbersome to add four new suits to a deck of cards. (And have to agree that I would never want to hold 26 cards at once!! It's bad enough to have 17 when 3 people play.) While I'm open to learning new games, I'm certainly not into adding four new suits and drastically changing existing games. I see no advantage to adding to the length of most of these games - some last plenty long enough already! There are also games that can simply be played with 2 decks if you have a lot of players. (That would obviously drastically change the strategy of some games, but some are fine that way.)

Not to mention that we'd have to change all the probability problems in the textbooks!

You can always try to invent a new game using such cards. Special decks do exist for certain games.

I won't bore you to death with the rules (or make you read them!), but consider a few of the games listed here:

(specifically, #2 Puerto Rico and #3 Agricola)
Interesting. I found a group around my location that has been playing some of these "eurogames" but so far have not been available on the nights they play. Ever play Settlers of Catan? I did find that one online, where I could learn it and practice a bit. So far I haven't had the time to search some of the other ones they play, but I know they've mentioned both Puerto Rico and Agricola, especially that last.

p.s. You can play a few of these at/through http://www.brettspielwelt.de/?nation=en
The browser client is SLOW the first time it loads.
So.... is this free? Have you gotten any viruses from it? (I don't much trust the internet, both virus-wise and privacy-wise.) I'd much prefer playing things in person, but hey, when you don't have that option you look elsewhere.

Bsw is free of cost and of viruses! You can play Settlers and Puerto Rico there, as well as many that I haven't mentioned.
I've been playing Settlers since 2002, most recently over Thanksgiving.

Hey, cool, thanks. I'll have to try that - like I need something else eating up my time!
