A fish was caught whose tail weighed 9 lbs, its head weighed as much as its tail plus half its body. Its body weighed as much as its head and tail. What did the fish weigh? Any help and explanation would be great.

Tail = 9 Head = Tail + (1/2)*Body , so Head = 9 + (1.2)*Body Body = Head + Tail Body = 9 + (1/2)*Body + 9 You should be able to solve that last one, then use the result to find the Head and Tail

Now don't leave just yet...what we have is: Body = 9 + (1/2)*Body + 9 Gather like terms on the right, then subtract (1/2)*Body from both sides: (1/2)*Body = 18 Multiply both sides by 2: Body = 36

If that's the way to long for you, something fishy is going on.
