One could also ask what A is and what B is.

[2,5[ is all x such that $\displaystyle 2 \leq x < 5$

$\displaystyle A \cup B$, loosely speaking, is the set of all members of A and B.

Some texts use (3, 5] for this notation as well. ]3,5] is all x such that $\displaystyle 3 < x \leq 5$. Beyond that I have no idea what you are referring to until you post the actual question.
