Chi Square Test

I'm planning on doing a chi square test of independence to see if their is a dependent relationship between a school's student-teacher ratio and whether it is public or private. I have around 1300 public schools and almost 200 private schools in my data. The student-teacher ratios are generally between 5 and 25. My problem is that I don't know how many bins to use to make a contingency table. Is there a recommended number?
