I'm pretty fond of rulers myself, though I often use the straight side of a protractor because it makes me look smarter. My father was really level-headed, and for big lines we would trace the outline of his head.

What, exactly, are you looking for?

Perhaps we should assume the Greek's magical straightedge, which can draw a perfectly straight line between any two points no matter how far.
