You get just a plain number, but that's enough to help you. Note, however, that you must use parentheses correctly. Also, Google recognizes cotangent and ctan, but not cot. For the above expression, just give sec(-3pi/4) - ctan (pi/2) to Google and sec((-(3 * pi)) / 4) - ctan(pi / 2) = -1.41421356 is promptly returned.
