1. Can you explain what the symbols mean? What else is there to explain? 2. Show what multiplying the given matrix by the solution matrix (c) gives. 3. The "finish" specifies the horses who came first, second and third, in that order, so it's a permutation (of three from ten).

It is difficult since not all calculators have the same functions done the same way. Also, you will have surely been shown that in class; it is a matter of learning which operation to do first, and that takes practice. I'd find sqrt(2) and subtract 1, then negate that. Then find the inverse cosine [the angle whose cosine has that value]. Add 5 and find the root. You'd likely want the angle in radians, so you'd have to have been sure your calculator was set to that ... It's your own ballpark, really. For the rest, you need a classroom or textbook standard reference, and you should have your own notes to guide you there?
