Circumscribe an equilateral triangle around a circle

Circumscribe an equilateral triangle around a unit circle; then circumscribe a circle around the triangle and a square around the new circle; then circumscribe a circle around the square and a regular pentagon around the new circle and so on. Edward Kasner and James Newman state that the construction converges to a limit circle whose radius is about 12. What really happens to the limit.
