Otherwise we will just think you have misread the question or made up an arbitrary answer. If there were 24 people at the party and each shook hands with at least one other person what is the minimum possible number of hand shakes. Here the answer is clearly 12 where each person shakes hands with exactly one other, so does that help us with the original question. CB
