Looking For Online Course Before Real Class Starts!

Hello,
I am currently registered to re-take Pre-Calculus class this summer at my CC starting July, 2013. I am not good at math and wish to be overly prepared for this upcoming class (I really need an A). I have a weak math foundation. I took Algebra 1 3x prior to my senior year in high school, and just barely passed Algebra 2 my senior year with the teacher holding my hand the whole way. Going into Community College, I was somehow allowed to test into Trigonometry without taking the lower level Algebras. Needless to say, I failed Trig my first time, and just barely got a C the second time. I was told that PreCalc was easier than Trig (technically it was), but I had forgotten about my weak foundation in Algebra. Like I said, I am now retaking PreCalc. It was told to me on a number of occasions that not to bother going back and paying money to take the college Algebra courses. Since I am a Biology major, I only have to go up to Calc 2 and possibly take Statistics anyway.

Firstly, I am looking for an Online Mini Course for PreCalculus from an accredited school. Does anyone know how I can take PreCalculus by myself before the class starts. Secondly, from reading about my experience in math, do you think I should go backwards and pay for the Algebra courses in spite of what I've been told? I, personally would like to get my maths out of the way and keep moving forward, but I want other peoples opinion.

Re: Looking For Online Course Before Real Class Starts!

I suggest you: get a good book to study by yourself. The online course can help in some doughts but if you are able to read a book related with maths by yourself you're gonna be independent of the teacher, then you can learn to much more. This way to learn is not easy to follow, because is not usual that one study whit no teacher, if you wanna learn by this way -that is very useful- it gonna take of you a lot of time at the beggining.

A good book for pre calculus courses: Pre calculus. Stewart

Try to check the coursera website, it could have a online courses about pre calculus.

And, if you have doughts you can ask in a forum. :P

I do think the same. You should learn thorough the book as independent learning is very important in order to enhance your experience. Also when the course starts you will have some good information regarding your course and then you will be able to questions and answer to your teacher very well.
